Over 50 & Job Hunting

I received a lot of questions regarding looking for a job when you’re over 50. It seems there is a lack of resources and information out there for these job seekers. It’s such a shame too…but I might be fixing that in the near future. I’ll keep you posted.

It’s very true that you face different challenges than others in the workforce. It’s not always a fair challenge…actually, it usually isn’t. There is discrimination out there so you have to find ways to overcome those obstacles. How do you do that exactly? Let me give you a few pointers to start out with.

So you’re running to brick walls in your job search, huh? Not surprising. I got a lot of questions about job seekers wanting to take their career intensity down a notch. Well, how can you do that without employers thinking there’s a catch?

If you want a job that is less stressful, and that even pays less, you can address your desires in your cover letter. An employer can read that and realize that although your resume might call for a higher position than you’re applying for, you’re looking to “step down”, so to speak.

One thing you have to be careful to do, though, is to emphasize that lowering your career expectations at this time in your life does not reflect upon the level of dedication you would put into any job you hold.

There is an amazing resume builder that can write your resume and cover letter for many situations - including the over 50 market. They have a free trial so you should check it out.
