Even Your Voice Mail Needs to Be Professional
Have you ever called a friend or collegue at home or their cell phone and gotten a really..well…unprofessional message in return? Just think what potential employers must think!
When you include your phone number in your resume package - which of course you should - you open yourself up to an all different kind of scrutiny. Make sure you’re prepared.
On your resume and cover letter you may want to identify which phone number you are including: home, office, cell. That way the employer will know how discreet they have to be when leaving a message.
Create your voice mail outgoing message in a pleasant voice and make sure they know it’s you they are leaving a message for. It wouldn’t be a good situation to have them mis-dial the extention and leave a message for you on someone else’s voice mail.
So take a couple of minutes to make sure your voice mail is set up professionally to accept all the interview and job offers you have coming to you.
